What is Invisalign?

Invisalign uses a series of clear, custom-made aligners to gradually move your teeth into their desired positions. The aligners are virtually invisible and removable, making them a popular choice for teens and adults.

We also offer in-house aligners - clear aligners made right in our office at a more affordable price point without sacrificing quality.

Nearly Invisible

Clear plastic that's hard to notice

Removable

Take out to eat, brush, and floss

Comfortable

No brackets or wires

Aligners for Kids & Teens

Clear aligners aren't just for adults. Aligner systems designed for growing mouths — such as Invisalign First, made for children roughly 6 to 10 — can widen a narrow arch, manage crowding and spacing, and guide erupting teeth during Phase 1 (interceptive) treatment, while baby teeth are still present. For kids who'd rather skip brackets or an appliance with a key, it's often the friendliest introduction to orthodontics.

For teenagers, aligners have their own advantages: nearly invisible in photos, removable for sports, band, and meals — and effective for most alignment and bite problems when worn 20 to 22 hours a day. That wear-time honesty matters: aligners only work while they're in. Teen-oriented aligners include small compliance indicators that fade with wear, so parents and orthodontists can see how it's going.

Wondering whether early aligners or an expander is the right Phase 1 tool for your child? That's exactly the question a free consultation answers.

Care Instructions

Caring for Your Aligners

Follow these guidelines for the best results with your clear aligners

👍 Wearing Your Aligners

  • Wear 20-22 hours per day - Only remove for eating, drinking (except water), and brushing
  • Change aligners on schedule - Typically every 1-2 weeks as directed
  • Use your chewies - Bite down on chewies to seat aligners properly
  • Keep your case handy - Always store aligners in your case when not wearing

🪥 Cleaning Your Aligners

  • Rinse every time you remove them - Prevents bacteria buildup
  • Brush gently with a soft toothbrush - Use clear, unscented soap (not toothpaste)
  • Soak regularly - Use retainer cleaner or Invisalign cleaning crystals
  • Never use hot water - Heat can warp the plastic
  • Brush your teeth before reinserting - Prevents trapping bacteria

🍎 Eating & Drinking

  • Remove aligners before eating - Food can damage or stain them
  • Only drink water with aligners in - Coffee, tea, wine, and soda can stain
  • Brush before reinserting - Or at least rinse if brushing isn't possible
  • Don't chew gum with aligners in - It will stick to the plastic

⚠️ Important Tips

  • Keep previous aligners - In case you lose your current set
  • Don't skip aligners - Each set is important for proper movement
  • Contact us if aligners don't fit - Poor fit can delay treatment
  • Attend all appointments - We need to monitor your progress

Braces vs. Aligners: An Honest Comparison

Both get you to a healthy bite and a smile you like — they just trade different conveniences. Here's the honest version:

  • Work 24/7 — nothing to remember or lose
  • Handle the most complex corrections and bite problems
  • Food restrictions: no hard, sticky, or chewy foods
  • Brushing and flossing take more effort around brackets
  • Visible — though modern brackets are smaller than you remember
  • Adjustments at the office roughly every 4-8 weeks
  • Nearly invisible — most people won't notice them
  • Removable: eat anything, brush and floss normally
  • Need 20-22 hours of wear per day — discipline is the price of freedom
  • Small tooth-colored attachments are common and expected
  • Some complex tooth movements still do better with braces
  • Fewer emergency visits — no brackets or wires to break

Which one is right depends on your bite, your habits, and your priorities — that's a conversation, not a quiz result. Both are offered at both of our offices, and the consultation is free.

Could Aligners Work for You?

Five quick questions. This isn't a diagnosis — only an exam can give you that — but it's a good conversation starter:

Is your main concern crowding, spacing, or teeth that have shifted since earlier treatment?

Could you commit to wearing aligners 20-22 hours every day?

Would you strongly prefer a treatment most people can't see?

Do you play a wind instrument or a contact sport?

Are all of your adult teeth in (or is this for a child aged roughly 6-10)?

Every mouth is different — this checker can't see yours. Only an orthodontic exam can tell you what will actually work.

Aligner FAQ

Each new set brings a day or two of pressure — most people describe it as noticeable, not painful. That pressure is the treatment working.

Commonly anywhere from 6 to 18 months depending on complexity, plus retainers afterward to hold the result. You'll get a real estimate — not a guess — after your free exam.

Both move teeth the same way: a series of clear trays, changed on a schedule. Invisalign is the established brand system with its full toolkit of attachments and features; our in-house aligners are made right at the practice and can be a budget-friendlier fit for simpler cases. We'll tell you honestly which your case calls for.

Many bite problems, yes — small elastics anchored to aligners are routine. The most complex corrections may still do better with braces, which is exactly the kind of thing the exam sorts out.

Call us the same day — don't wait. Depending on where you are in the series, we'll usually have you move to the next tray or go back to the previous one while a replacement is made.
